What’s up with the preliminary reactor?

July 26, 2024

Aalborg University has designed the preliminary reactor, determining the optimal length and number of layers for the final prototype. But how does it work?

The product and unreacted gases exiting the reactor are directed to a gas analyser. This system determines the sorbent breakthrough and signals when the reactors need to be switched.

Once switched, the saturated reactor begins the desorption process, controlled in terms of pressure and temperature to achieve the desired effluent ammonia purity of > 99.9% at t =0 / 200 °C / < 100 bar. Then, this purity will be certified by the gas analyser.

Finally, the exhaust gases, including ammonia, hydrogen and nitrogen, will be directed to an acid scrubber for ammonia abatement, preventing its release into the atmosphere
